2016 RDS Primary Science Fair

7th Dec 2015
2016 RDS Primary Science Fair

We are delighted to announce that this January, St. Malachy's Primary 5 class, along with over 4,500 students from across the country will take part in the RDS Primary Science Fair. Working under the supervision of Mrs Copley and Miss McGlennon, the entire class will be encouraged to be inquisitive and curious about the world around them, with class projects that answer questions such as ‘Can I charge my mobile device with a fruit or vegetable?’ ‘How clean are our pencils?’ And ‘Why does bread get hard and biscuits get soft?’

The RDS Primary Science Fair encourages primary school teachers to focus on developing students’ core scientific skills by investigating a question or problem by ‘working scientifically’ and ‘designing and making’ as per the primary science curriculum.

One of the aims of the RDS Primary Science Fair is to develop teacher confidence and skills in teaching STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) using an inquiry-based approach. Better teaching of STEM in primary education is considered by many experts to be crucial in strengthening Ireland’s future economic competiveness and international science performance.

Thursday 7th January 2016 is certainly a date to look forward to for Primary 5 pupils!!!
