Arabic Language and Culture Project Launch

PROJECT FUNDED BY THE BRITISH COUNCIL AND THE QATAR FOUNDATION INTERNATIONAL

Five Armagh schools, three primary and two second level, have agreed to work closely together on a project exploring the Arabic Language and Arab culture. St. Catherine’s College, St. Patrick’s Grammar School, Saints and Scholars Primary School, St. Malachy’s Primary School and St. Patrick’s Primary School will stage classes in both language and cultural activities in the summer term 2016. The language classes will be provided by Interlingua Language Solutions based in Lisburn.
The project aims to give children from all participating schools a chance to experience the Arabic language and Arab cultural forms through music, food, art and dance.
The enthusiastic cooperation of all five schools, equal partners in the project, will provide a platform to strengthen Shared Education and cross-phase links. As the project develops the schools will work closely on engaging with the wider community through parental involvement. All participants agreed that this signal project will address issues of stereotypical preconceived notions and broaden horizons.
It is hoped that the project, one of only four in Northern Ireland, will continue into the new school year.
