Ingrid and George Hook visit St. Malachy's Primary School
This morning St. Malachy's welcomed Ingrid and George Hook to Chapel Lane to celebrate our recent success at the RDS Primary Science Fair. Last month Primary 5 travelled to Dublin, as one of only 6 Northern Ireland Primary Schools, to take part in the fair in which the lead judge was Mrs Ingrid Hook.
Such was the interest in P5's experiment 'Does curly hair produce more static electricity?' some pupils were interviewed by RTE and UTV television crews and also appeared on the front page of the Irish Times newspaper. While Mrs Hook also raised the interesting question whilst being interviewed a few weeks back on the Ray D'Arcy Show on RTE1, a show which was watched by nearly 1 million viewers.
As a follow up to all of this and to showcase the schools outstanding practice in Science, Mrs Hook accepted an invitation to St Malachy's along with her famous Rugby Pundit husband George, who also hosts a daily radio show 'The Right Hook' on RTE.
Whilst Mrs Hook was shown some great scientific investigations in P3 and P5, George carried out a question and answer session with P6 and P7 which also saw him attempt to take on some P7's in computer games, which they have been designing using 'Scratch' software.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Ingrid and George for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit St Malachy's and hope they enjoyed their morning in the Orchard County. Go raibh maith agaibh!
