St. Malachy's primary seven complete Heart Start Programme

Over the last few weeks the primary seven children in St. Malachy’s Primary School have been learning how to administer basic first aid in a range of different situations.

Emergency Life Support (ELS) includes performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which is chest compressions and rescue breathing. Other actions include dealing with choking and serious bleeding and how to recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack.

Life-threatening emergencies are common. But many more people can be saved if simple life-saving skills are performed immediately by someone at the scene in the few minutes before professional help arrives.

This scheme has provided primary seven children at St. Malachy’s primary school with the essential skills needed to help save lives.
