ST. MALACHY'S PRIMARY SCHOOL ARMAGH EXCELLENCE RECOGNISED YET AGAIN

29th Mar 2012

In recognition of the outstanding contribution of the pupils from St. Malachy's Primary School in Chapel Lane, Armagh, to the Annual Lena Mackrel Schools' Poetry Competition, local artist Mrs. Ann Clarke presented a portrait of Seamus Heaney to the school.  Since the inception of the poetry competition, St. Malachy's has consistently been recognised as a quality centre of teaching by the various members of the judging panel.

“Our core business is teaching and learning.  Over the years we have been recognised as providing quality teaching and once again this presentation justifies that recognition.  Recently we have been very successful with our Reading Partnership programme and our Key Stage 2 scores have always bettered the Northern Ireland average, again indicating our emphasis on quality classroom practice.  During the year we introduced Literacy Evolve, an interactive programme for whole class teaching and it has been achieving dividends.  We acknowledge children from all backgrounds and this competition has provided our children with opportunities to express themselves in verse,” remarked Mrs. Roisin King, Literacy Co-ordinator.
